Frequently Asked Questions.

What’s the Biggest Mistake that authors make when writing their first book?

According to one of the New York Times’ most prolific bestselling authors, the biggest mistake the first time authors make is putting too much information in their first book

I would argue that far too many books published today could easily benefit from providing less content.

As the author, you need to be a fierce advocate for your reader and include only the precise stories and content that will perfectly fulfill your elegant book plan.

Why should I work with the Book Carver?

Because you want to create a good book that will be a Gift to your readers… that will impact them positively, that will position you as a greater authority in your field, and that will be part of your legacy to the world.

Because you want to go deep to find the soul of your book, gain the clarity you crave, and create a structure for your book that will keep the readers from closing it prematurely, and will deliver the outcomes you desire.

And perhaps, because your Soul is calling.

How long should my book be?

This is the question I receive most often, and my answer is always the same…

In order for your book to be a true Gift to your reader, that serves them well, your book should be not one word longer and not one word shorter than required to successfully execute your invisible perfect structure.

How important is it to plan my non-fiction book before I start writing it?

If you’re writing nonfiction, and intend to positively impact your readers in specific ways, it’s imperative that you begin with a high-quality, customized plan, an invisible perfect structure.

It’s the only way to ensure that your reader can easily consume your content, assimilate your intended outcomes, and apply them to their own lives.

My powerful one-of-a-kind process—which I will personally guide you through—will reveal your custom, elegant structure.

How do I know if I have a good book in me?

There are many good reasons to write a book, so this question is partially dependent upon the reasons why you want to write your book.

I invite you to schedule a consultation if you’d like to discuss this together.

What if I want to become an Amazon Bestseller?

The most important outcome for me is that you create a book that will become a true Gift to your readers

My first concern is with the words on the pages between your front and back cover.

However, many authors have a desire to become an Amazon bestseller for a variety of good reasons.

I’ll be perfectly honest with you, it’s not rocket science, but it does take some know-how, some planning, and some effort.  Let’s talk about this if it’s important to you

Why should I invest in planning my good book?

Because it’s more than just a book to you and you know it will outlive you.

Because you believe you have an important message (for the world, your family, or your clients) that deserves to be presented in a clear and powerful way.  You want your book to be more than just a business card, and you believe that a mediocre book hurts you more than it helps you.

You want to discover the Soul of your book, and actually want your readers to read the whole thing.

You want your book to be a Gift to your readers and you want to imbue it with the best of you,

You are looking for a proven and trusted guide who can pull the very best out of you and help you discern the precise content and stories to include in your good book…

Invest if you don’t want the great book in your head to become a disappointing book in your hands…

And because you want to enjoy the process.

If you’re not concerned about the quality of your book you probably don’t need to set up a consultation.

If this resonates with you, you are probably a good candidate to work with us.

How do I know if I am a good match to work with the Book Carver to plan my good book?

There are four criteria I use to determine if I should take on a new author client:

First, I’m really good at what I do, so if I’m going to have my fingerprints in some subtle or dramatic way on your book, I want to make sure that it’s aligned with my values, and that it will be a valuable contribution to the world.

Second, You need to be the right person to write your book. I’m going to help you shape the authority of your experience. We can talk more about this on the phone.

Third, education and continuous growth have always been important to me, and a good book is a powerful way to help your readers learn and grow in very specific ways. So, you need to have some specific outcomes you want your readers to walk away with after reading your book. (Don’t worry, I will help you determine precisely what those outcomes are as I guide you through my process.)

Fourth… well, you’ll have to wait until your free book consultation to discover if you meet this one.  I’m looking forward to talking with you!

Will there be snacks?

Of course—and really good water!   But only if we’re working in person :)
